I know that Uber just did a massive layoff last year. An Uber recruiter reached out to me saying that I might be a good fit for one of the role they are hiring. Why did they start hiring again after their layoff? If I join Uber, how likely will they rescind offers? How likely will I get laid off in the first few months? Anyone has any insights? I just accepted an offer with Uber in their finance function. Talked to a friend who’s been there 5 years. They stated leadership has been adamant about no layoffs but you never know in this environment. Best of luck!
Explore the opportunities. It may take weeks for things to materialize. By that time, the economy picture may help you make evaluate risks/rewards. You got nothing to lose.
What role? My role that I passed interviews was stopped …
You are at Apple which seems safer. Think
Yes, Uber is one of the few companies still hiring. Uber's layoffs were last during the start of COVID in May 2020. There haven't been any layoffs post that. It seems unlikely that Uber would rescind offers or have layoffs again given the massive negative consequences - low morale, top performers leaving, difficulty hiring - of doing so last time around.
Thank you so much
currently it looks okay but we never know. I would think apple is safer
Still hiring
Uber hasn’t had a layoff in nearly 3 years, last one in May 2020 when Covid wiped out 80% of revenue.
Yes, Uber is still hiring. Less aggressively than before. No plans to reduce overall count
