Which school you go to gives you such a narrow advantage if at all in this industry. Literally 8 people care across the industry, that's it. Brush up on leetcode. That's the real thing to do and the only thing that matters
It only matters to the extent that the school provides opportunities to gain relevant experience. That could be through things like formalized internship/co-op programs, hosted job fairs, industry-specific career coaching, etc. But yeah, no HM is going to look at the resume and be like "U. Chicago? Nope!" 😂
It matters to get your first internship outside of FAANG
It’s a top 10 school. I doubt there is any company in the world that would reject candidates from there. That said, you can probably get into any tech company you want by going to leetcode u.
I think it’s the worst among its peer schools based off what I have seen. Peer schools being duke, UPenn, Columbia.
UPenn and Columbia are Ivy leagues…it’s unfair to compare Chicago to them.
How’s it unfair to compare UChicago to those schools? Just like FAANG is not a very inclusive term, Ivy League is similarly exclusive of Stanford, UChi, Berkeley and other schools that not only compete with them but also surpass Ivy universities in some areas.
nothing beats a cheap school + a lot of hard work. maybe you won't get to brag how you are from top 5 uni, trust me you don't even have to. let your work speak more than the name of your school. All The Best!
Sure if cheap school means UC Berkeley in state, otherwise you risk being dragged down by losers around you
yo google idk the fees of UCB and how cheap it is. But I know it is hard to get into. I didn't understand what you mean by being dragged down by losers. what I wanted to emphasize on is that hardworking students will find their way to top, irrespective of name of their universities. That doesn't mean going to a no name uni but I've seen my friends rooting for a specific uni and getting depressed later. doesn't make much sense to me unless you are 100% sure that you want to work under a specific prof for a specific research topic
There is a shortage of Engineers. Every school is a target school. You just need to be more proactive and build a network with people at target companies (LINKEDIN) who can help you get interviewed.
Phenomenal school. Better known for MBA then Tech in my experience, but others may have had a different experience.
For CS it is very theory oriented. Systems profs. don't even get tenure. Avoid like the plague if you want to work in the industry.
That's how most good CS programs are. I didn't write a line of code in my algorithms class until the final project.
Thanks.
U of Chi is mainly known for its graduate programs.
