Yes because every layoff you’ve seen so far got rid of DS first not recruiters, sales, or marketing.
Yes because for a ton of companies DS is a luxury and investment and not a core driver for present day revenue
Does ML also get the axe or are they more safe for layoffs?
I think the obvious caveat is within tech fields. But framing the conversation on DS and Analytics vs SWEs, I would lean towards yes. It really depends though. A lot of company have fluff SWE positions that aren’t core drivers. And, many companies rely heavily on data teams where it has become borderline necessity for them.
Depends on the Dept. Growth Depts have lots of DS ppl and generally are recession proof. The higher you are to the top line the better.
