I have an interview scheduled before holidays. I always see FB winning every poll about fucked up WLB and toxic culture. And it wins by a mile. Is it really that bad? Can some facebook employee comment?
Different folks have different experience based on project/manager.
This the most copout answer ever. Even more true for Amazon. This reinstated the denial in profuse shit all the where while being tight lipped.
I have been here for a few years and had 2-3 projects and 3-4 managers, and had a variety of experiences. I am finally in my happy place :-)
Yes.
Yup. People got drunk during the interview. Think about that
First time I've heard this story. Interviewer or candidate or both??
Lol.
The performance review system creates a lot of stress. Most people work around it on expense of WLB. The good thing is that you get paid very well for it
Performance review system exists everywhere no? Why is it particularly bad at Facebook?
Because they are constantly managing people with low performance reviews more so than most companies. Thus every performance review is stressful since you can lose your job.
Its bad
I loved it for the first few years but lately it has been abysmal. It feels like direction radically changes on a weekly basis, lots of this happening behind closed doors with ICs being told too late and our data backed concerns ignored. I'm working on nights and weekends just to adapt to these changes because there is simply no other way. Of course this is heavily team dependent. But I think it's kind of a crapshoot to join at this point.
Nope, love it here - most people I know are working 35 hours or less. Hence why most people stay, why FB has high employer rankings everywhere, why xooglers come here and why FBers never go to apple or Linkedin despite reputed better wlb (which is false). Blind is full of shit. If FB was actually bad, they would have issues getting interns to convert (hence why E3 and even E4 headcount is sparse year after year) or any xoogler to stay for the long term (the population of xooglers here is only growing over time). People at FB generally arent on blind as they aren't job searching.
No, blind is not reality obviously. Your experience will vary of course at any big company but fb is a lot of fun.
If you go purely by blind... every company is bad and every manager is out to get you, and everyone is paid way more than you 🤷♂️
As someone who worked at FB before google, I will say — run
Can you elaborate?
would you say you learned more at fb? Just started at google but considering dipping to fb cuz it’s super slow here
