Is frontend career viable at top finance?

Looking at Jane Street, Citadel, Two Sigma, DE Shaw and Hudson River Trading, I see that there’s front end dedicated positions, especially at Citadel/Two Sigma/HRT Are these roles/careers that would actually see the rocket ship growth of quant/generalist SWE? And by rocket ship I mean like, 600k-1m+ within a few years. What about for UI work on trading/algo research teams? Curious how to rank these compared to others, and especially if they can hit the 400-500k range - have Snap + Uber offers @450k already but debating whether to do onsites TC 250k YOE 5

No finance firm is paying 1mm for a UI developer. You get paid proportional to impact. Making a widget on a web page doesn't move the needle in trading like it does at a social media/advertising company.

UI at trading don't just make widgets -_-. Think more trading apps and other internal tooling pandas isn't the best way to explore a dataset sometimes.

Yeah, but making a widget in a strategy design may help. Tbh I feel like the field is small and won’t have any data points, I’ll probably just interview and find out what they’re expecting.

I know people at hedge funds doing UI work + more full-stack that are around $500k.

Around what YOE? I feel like if there’s no shot at 1MM may as well just stay in tech

5-10 YOE. If your goal is 1MM TC doing UI I would go to Citadel and work on UI for their investment managers where UI has direct business impact
