I am in the middle of interviewing with Uber but I keep reading here about coming layoffs in Uber and PIP. The team I work for in PANW is pretty toxic so I really want to get out. + the salary range in Uber is around 40-50K more than my current TC. So I guess my question, should I continue the interview process with Uber and move there if I get the offer or stay put with Palo Alto Networks? TC: 210K

Uber will be hit when the consumer spending will be cut as a result of recession. This part is still staying strong for some reason. If you bet against a recession and think it’s about a soft landing then come here.
How is the atmosphere there and wlb? Are they actively using pips to eliminate people?
So far they’re eliminating people without pip.
Did they ask you lc hard in phone screen?
Got rejected due to this :( so curious
Did they ask you that for SWE or applied scientist role?
All of the pips/layoffs already happened this month.
How is the atmosphere there and wlb?
It depends on the team, some are really stressful with the latest performance management
Uber has no company wide layoffs and pip is everywhere. You should join
Uber directly fired ppl on the pretext of performance…there was no pip as such After the recent firing ppl are scared (more in some specific teams). Consider setting up some calls with junior engineers in the team first to get the better idea. HM/recruiter should support that as well, before you make a decision.
That’s correct
I will definitely take this advice. Thank you!
How's it going on the B2B side?
Those who say "directly fired ppl on pretext of performance" - 100% they did. Because they hadn't gone through performance management for a while. There was a stagnant culture of allowing lax performance. The cuts were warranted in most cases that I saw. That being said - if you expect to be successful at Uber and think the manager is good - then I'd say go for it. One thing you may want to ask for is for the manager to share their pulse survey scores for your manager. Unsure if they will do this, but should give you a clearer picture of how good of a manager you have.
What is the pulse survey score?
We do a survey every year where your direct reports basically report their quality of life working under you and satisfaction with uber. I wear mine as a badge of honor and try to ensure they are high. I would expect other managers try to do the same. Would be slightly suspicious if they didn't want to share them.
If you are already in the middle of the interview process, I do not think it makes any sense at all to drop out at this point. See if you get an offer, and then decide. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions during your interviews. WLB varies by team. It is fine for me. I don’t see people complaining about it in the company all hands questions, and people are generally not shy about complaining about stuff there. People were let go because of performance reasons this year, and this will continue. There are plenty of analyses available online of Uber’s stock potential. That is of course a proxy for how the company will handle a recession. We are somewhat recession resistant, because driver supply will increase during a recession. As somebody suggested above, have your recruiter connect you with current employees in similar roles. for informational interviews. And do not pay too much attention to what people say on Blind. Including me.
This is very useful. I’ve decided to continue with the interviews and I hope to eventually get an offer 🤞🤞🤞
