Now that I have unlimited vacation, I want to make a few worth while trips this year. However, I'm coming in a little tight. One reason is that I am paying for my entire family(parents/sibling) to go on a two week trip with me each year (Asia or Africa). Sending parents also to another 1 week vacation. Traveling myself (or with friends) another 4 weeks. Idk, I want to have an epic year and how I am justifying it is that I already put 30k in 401k each year (incl emp match), and have another 15k that will vest on its own (that I won't touch). I only want to sell 10k (that will vest some time this year, will not touch any past investments). Is that being reckless? I love to spend money on myself and close ones but now that I'm dipping into stock I feel like I am on a slippery slope. I make a good salary already (nyc taxes are rough though) but travel a lot and do lots of fun stuff with friends. *I have no debt and already emergency fund TC: 180kish yoe:3.5 #personalfinance #investments #yolo #liveyourbestlife #microsoft
YOLO
Do whatever makes you happy.
This sounds like some serious lifestyle creep if you have to dip into stocks already ...but enjoying life is also important.
This is exactly what I was thinking to myself. I was googling a lot last night about lifestyle inflation. I jumped from 17.50 an hour to 80k and now 180k tc in a few short years. I've always been pretty responsible with money but this is....different
Do it. A good financial advice isn’t always a good life advice. Exercise self-control after this. Very often the regret of doing something is easier to handle than the regret of not doing something (not counting crimes) 😂
My opinion is it’s your money you should do what you want. Probably don’t ask strangers on the internet but maybe a financial advisor who can look at what you have and give you a better idea
Do it. Also apply to multiple travel credit carts for the offers and miles. Try living in a more expensive hotel for the stay if you ca stretch your budget a bit - worth it. You can give your credit card to your parents to spend on their vacation- and accrue international spending points. Dont forget to instagram it!!!
I definitely use travel credits! Chase Sappire all day :)....not sure I trust the parents with my credit card lol. Thanks.
Do it, you will make that money back but that time with family and happiness is priceless.
Eso. Exactly. Thank you!
I think it’s ok as a one time thing. Long term I think it would be better to invest and building wealth. Maybe only pay for one family trip and don’t pay for the extra week trip for your parents.
Yes this is the first time I am thinking to sell stock for enjoyment. I was thinking just 1x. Already paid for parent's trip, but the family trip is later in year so I will try to budget that the best I can.
Do it. Time with family is precious.
Never do this, it’s ok to admit you can’t afford something. https://youtu.be/R3ZJKN_5M44
I have 0 debt paid off all student loans right after college. Thankfully.
Good for you. It’s your money but don’t forget about the taxes too
