Is it foolish to pay $4400 in rent if earning only $10000 a month?

44% after tax income for rent 😳 About 25% pretax income. How much should I consider as threshold? (Salary increases 4%, and upgrading from 2 bed to 3 bed, which I can’t avoid, increases the cost by 60% 😢)

It’s more foolish to use cat emojis

Why do you need so much space? Do you have kids? Working partner? Roomates?

Meta hehehv OP Mar 5, 2023

A bedroom to sleep, one for kid another for home office.

Well if you have kids I think having space is important, but 44% goes to rent is a bit too much but if you feel it is necessary to not downsize (like use living room as office space, etc) then I think 4.4K for 3b is not a bad deal

Sounds fine. Overall your home+car expenses should be under 35% of pretax income

Bro. Not really wise tbh. If you don’t have a car, maybe it is okay though
