I’m planning on applying to FAANG in a few months. I would love to move to the Bay Area or NYC. I was wondering if applying to these locations (Google Mountain View, Meta Menlo Park…) would reduce my chances compared to applying to smaller cities (more competitive). Background: recently graduated from a no-name university - 1 internship and 1 full time job TC - 62k CAD (48k USD) (less than 1 YOE) #tech #bayarea #faang #nyc
Deloitte pays 48k? dear goodness that is criminal I'm sorry OP
Converted from 62k Canadian Dollars which is the average pay for a new grad in Canada
That's still horrendous though, AMD even starts at 85k+ in Canada now.
Its equally as hard to get in, regardless of location
It’s a remote workplace nowadays. Talent comes from anywhere. As long as you know your shit you’ll have great opportunities whether you’re in a city or not
Agreed for the most part - but I think generally being in a big city with company presence will have more doors available. While a lot of companies are putting emphasis on remote - it’s not all of them and some have a threshold for it. Good engineers will be able to work from anywhere but I think generally there will be more opportunities in bigger cities
While what people say above are mostly true for experienced hire, it tends to be slighter tougher (not harder technically) to secure positions in the city (especially NYC) as a new grad since returning interns tend to fill the head-counts early on.
But what percentage of the interns get full time offers ? Is it like >80% ?
😮 at those 🥜 They don’t deserve any labor from you.

Women, help me understand why this is inspirational
I don't think it should matter as long as you are good at LC.
