Is it really that relaxing at Google?
Hi blind fam, Sometimes I feel like it’s an echo chamber here where the idea of Google is the most relaxed, highest paid dream company. A friend of mine has been working as a sde in Google for a few years and he works hard to deliver. No doubt that he has great work ethics and his team is very supportive, but I want to point out that there are also dedicated engineers in Google who are very self motivated are are continuing to build great services. TLDR: not everyone at Google is “chilling” L5 sde Trust fund: ~66MM SFH: ~3700 sqft
I know many who did that when I was there. A solid day of 3-4 hours. One guy was going for promo and worked a solid 40
It's chill if you have a decent manager. It's really bad otherwise.
Since 2023, I work 15 hours a week Before 2023, I worked 10 hours a week So yes, I work more, but still not that bad The stuff I build is good, and not crap
Extreme slackers are probably 30% at most but Google gets this rep because it's frustrating working with them and seeing them rewarded pretty much equally to the people putting in 60 hour weeks

Pretty sure this googler is serious. If you are coming in from outside you won't get to be slacker for quite a while. Googlers who are slacking have been here for atleast 6-7 years and have niche knowledge in that team.
What the heck is a trust fund of 66MM?
I know plenty of ppl that work 2 to 3 hrs a day or less. Go to office just for food and then go back home to watch movies or play games. Imo Google is run mainly by 20% of employees while the rest coast.
Where did that wealth come from wtf
I personally know of a successful senior SWE there that wakes up around 10 or 11 and works maybe 4-5 hours most days
“Successful” as in being well known in his field or just chilling at Google and collecting his fat paycheck and fleecing shareholders?
