Should I switch from a safe job at Amazon to Google? Should I relocate and start at Google? Not sure if I should worry about layoffs at Google? I'm an SWE in a really nice team at Amazon and not worried about job security at all.
Difficult decision
If you got an offer during these times, the role has been prioritized by leadership. Google paused hiring to do reprioritization. Hard to think they would cut prioritized roles in case of layoffs but anything is possible I guess.
What org this is at Amazon?!
Is this some kind of a joke? Safe team in Amazon 😂
Amazon and safe doesn’t exist together. You are being fooled by your manager.
If its like 30% higher... i would not bother at all
How is your team safe ? Don't you have mandatory pip ?
Only people at the bottom of the stack ranking get pipped
Nowhere is safe but google is def safer
Are you sure because google explicitly paused hiring to cut down many roles and left only a few open that required management approvals. Compared to meta, new hires I think are a lot safer. It’s the new hires that got in before the hiring pause that are likely in danger! Correct me if I’m wrong.
Well no shit new hires need support check-ins. Many places even provide a mentor for the first few weeks. There’s a big difference in getting a support check in for new hires and tenured folks.
Tough to judge without your yoe and tc?
