Friend from Cisco casually told me he has been given orders to take 3 days off during Christmas week and 3 days off during New Years week from his own acquired PTO. So technically this is 2 weeks off but employees are forced to take 6 days off from their PTO? Wtf! Is this true?
Yes. It is a cost saving measure
Forced Shutdown is a 2009 custom which turns out is very profitable. Has good impact on increased earnings due to non-encashment of PTOs
This isn’t 2009 though and tech is booming.
People will complain about anything these days.
Yea saving your PTO for an event only for it to be stripped away. Totally cool right?
You know about it in advance, which means it’s basically additional PTO.
So what happens if you already spent all of your PTO?
You get a negative balance. And if your maxed your negative balance then a pay cut.
That seems fishy AF.
Yes it's true and it sucks. Last year only 3 days of mandatory shutdown, this year it's 6. Of course they spin it as "good for your mental health" or some shit.
Leaving Cisco is even better for your mental health
Just joined recently.. I'll probably leave at 1 year mark.
We have a max balance of 160h at Amazon, so you're effectively forced to take PTO to avoid never getting any new one awarded because already at the max.
At India site they are forcing us to take 10 days PTO instead. Bye bye planned vacation
The 3 days at end of Dec has always been a thing. End of year shutdown. The 3 additional days are new. The net result is I’m OOO from 12/23 to 1/6
Cant wait to leave this shithole.
