Currently sde1 at amzn, India. On path to sde 2 in 1 or 2 qtrs. Got admit from Columbia University, MSCS. Given the job market/visa situation in US, is it worth spending ~$100k+ where I'll have to take a loan for $50-60k. My motivation for masters is to pursue a more research based career where an MS/PhD is a must. Still waiting for decisions on UCSD/UIUC/GaTech. Please specify the reason on comments 🙏 Blind tax: 26L TC YoE: 1.5yrs #engineering #mscs #columbia #swe #research
US MS isn't worth it. Can make more money (adjusted to PPP) by being a good engineer in India
If immigrating to US, worth it.
Hey, what did you decide?
Not sure. Rejected Columbia offer. Got UIUC MSCS. So thinking about that.

Columbia University will not give you that research career. You will end up doing more or less the exact same type of work you're doing now but in US. Don't waste your money and time in this market.
