Is it worth to move California from Virginia?
My wife and I are thinking to move California. I want to understand housing and expenses. Can I ask for pay raise if I’m moving to California? Household TC: 400K YOE: 1.5 Yr

Not worth it. California is on the decline and is the bigger shithole. Your comp should increase but your expenses more so.

Yes, you can expect pay to be higher. COL is high but pay more than makes up for it. Employers here have to compete with each other for talent where in other places the employer has more power due to lack of competition.
