after a while your family gets used to having knowledge for dinner. You’re way underpaid - my starting salary >10 years ago was $80k ...

In Raleigh? COL matters

Which one pays your bills?

Well, IMO TC is directly proportional to knowledge, for junior-mid level employees

If your job supports your current lifestyle, stick with it. That knowledge will help you get higher comp in the future.

The most priceless thing is your uniqueness. People comparing tc because they don’t have anything else to say to others, including myself unfortunately. Now you still have the chance to shape your own career and make your name heard. Treasure it, by all means!

Just shredded these FANG offer letters I got. But you know what I like more than TC?

Google Fluttershy Jul 29, 2018

This new FANG offer letter here! Grind knowledge of this new TC here. Years ago I was living in a FANG offer letter and had only 40 TCs to my name. But then I ran into a FANG offer letter. And another FANG offer letter. And then TC ran into Leetcode knowledge.

You can learn stuff and get paid. There are smart engineers no matter where you go so changing jobs does not necessarily mean you sacrifice knowledge. In contrast, I’d say you gain more knowledge by switching jobs.

Revinate je82id6 Jul 28, 2018

Tc is a relative value and the adjusted tc matters. Regarding you question, no tc matters more. You can always learn in another job.

Amazon cayde-6 Jul 28, 2018

There are many places you can learn AND have a much higher TC.

You can learn a lot more in other companies with higher pay.

That's a good amount for yoe and rtp. I concentrate on knowledge in the beginning to make bigger jumps later in career. There are jobs that keeps you doing the same thing year in and year out. So that bump from job hopping can become detrimental for career growth in the long run if they don't offer knowledge growth. Of course, if you can both, do that.

Good stuff, thanks!
