ive tried applying for positions with Amazon, Facebook or google on and off over the past few years but i’ve never had any responses. Background: I’ve been a software developer for the past 10 years at some smaller regional companies around Louisiana and wondering if my location has anything to do with the resume screenings. i ask this as i did have a call from Facebook about 3 months ago....only because my name was the same as another developer in NYC. During the first few minutes of the call, when i mentioned Louisiana, the recruiter figured out i wasnt the other guy and proceeded to hang up.
Are you willing to relocate? Is that clear in your application? If so, it is likely your work experience that is a mismatch
I am. And I don’t have that clear in my resume. I’ll put that in. Thanks!
Many of my team's hire is not from the location where the office is so I doubt it's that.
I would put some random address in the Bay Area as your address. That won’t impact your relocation eligibility, but it will help you eliminate location as a factor. To get my Google job, I put some public library address. I was living in a random town in Virginia at the time.
for any FAANG relocation is not usually an issue. They have the budget for it. If you have only worked at small companies they are probably concerned about the pace you can work at and also your ability to scale. You might want to aim for companies similar to yours in a more tech dense city, and then from there try getting into a FAANG. Or you could try the agency route first. Not the most ideal but a better stepping stone since you can’t seem to get directly in. Also make sure to emphasize on your LinkedIn and resume that you are open to relocation.

Companies that pay as much as meta
Its probably more your company than your location. Having a referral will make all of this irrelevant however.
"Its probably more your company than your location." Meaning that my current company would be a factor?
Uh duh? Are you really this dense? No shit working for a random company isn't going to get you a response like working for Google will.
