A position on hardware, the mgr that contacts me worked in Brcm, apple, Tesla, Google before. Very knowledgeable, the position is on hardware development of autonomous driving. After the famous layoff last week, should I still consider joining Rivian? Even though most of layoff happened to non-engineer positions. I am Staff in Qcom now, would be promoted to Sr Staff in this or next year. TC: 270k
I just saw an engineering colleague of mine at Rivian was let go.
Some many engineers have been lay-off last week
Join it. Anything is better than Qualcomm 😂
Well, I actually like the group I am in right now, just looking to further boost TC, nothing too negative about Qcom
Rivian paying you more than qcom? What's the difference?
Don’t
Sounds like high risk - high reward.
Tbh more like low risk, high reward but I’m ex-Tesla.
I would say for the next 12-18 months stay away from job hopping if you are happy with your company and the company is doing well. In your case, you would be shooting at your foot, going to Rivian from Qualcomm especially given the market conditions and their recent layoffs. Not just that, read about how Amazon and ford incurred losses due to Rivian investment. That only means more layoffs within the next year if they don’t deliver more vehicles. It’s usually the last in first out in case of layoffs, so beware.
Indeed, the last in usually get first fired, true, thanks
I would stay away
Run a poll
Stay away if you know what's good for you
Thanks for sharing, do you mean trash in terms of their technology roadmap? Execution? The mgr that contacted me just joined a few weeks ago, his old boss and boss's boss used to be working for Tsla, now both of them work for Rivian, so looks like they know what they are doing
