Hi folks I currently work in Amsterdam as a Data scientist TC 75K Euros I'm confused in choosing my further path, pay and life wise is USA better than Europe (Berlin/Amsterdam). Even in best of companies for data scientist in Amsterdam I see total compensation max at 110k euros, I read on blind people in USA make like 3-4 times of this. Can you guys put your thoughts on this, also what are the options to move from Europe to USA for non eu national. Thanks #tech #datascience #us #europe #amsterdam #facebook #google #spotify #microsoft #uber #meta #datascientist
Here's what I think they pay would look like - European company paying to work in Europe < US company paying to work in Europe < US company paying to work in US << US company paying to work in the bay area And yes. 3 - 4 times is easily doable.
Salaries in the US are much higher especially in tech. Think about a high paying industry in Europe like Finance, those are the salaries you get in tech in the US (finance being even higher in the US too) Yes you can do $300k as a DS if you’re good, or even more Regarding visa options here’s where it gets very complicated. You safest bet is to do a master in the US then look for a job here. Other option is to work in europe for a big (US) company with US presence then transfer on L1 after 2 years
Fastest is join US company in Europe and transfer US with L1 visa and get your compensation adjusted. With the remote trend, US companies are less likely to hire people through h1b.
Better pay? Yes. Better life? Uh…
Nope. US quality of life is miserable in comparison to other industrialized countries.
Where do you live??
How much you are able to save monthly in Europe on that salary.
Pay and life are different things. Also cost of living. People making a lot are also living in expensive areas. You likely also get paid more per hour worked…work/life balance is much better in Europe and vacation is not looked down upon. Plus you have a ton of holidays.
And you have great travel options at your doorstep! And low-cost airlines
Get an European citizenship then move to Switzerland.
Switzerland is not part of the EU😅
@mister-big Yes, I know. What's your point? Switzerland allows free movement for EU visa holders and easier to live for EU passport holders.
You can work in Switzerland with EU passport. Much easier to get the permit from Cantonment you will live in Switzerland if you are an EU national.

In a similar boat. There are very few companies that enable moving to the US with work sponsorship and visa. My suggestion - grind it out here. Spotify, DAZN, Uber, Snap, Meta, Amazon, MSFT, Datadog all pay big bucks in the EU.
DAZN?
Dazn pay very poorly from what I recall
