Grad student here. Batch '23. Looking for SDE roles for summer, fall Internships and eventually full time. Do you think personal website will help for new grad roles ? Is there any other profiles you think recruiters or managers take a look at like GitHub, stack overflow etc. #newgrad #internship #FTE #software #swe #engineering
Nope, only recruiters would be impressed lol 😂
You mean to say it is good ? If the recruiters get Impressed I have a higher probability of getting a call right ??!
I would say do it if you have time but it doesn’t make much difference to be frank
no it’s like buying a sports car to impress the ladies. it only impresses other dudes.
Lol
No, leetcode all the way and prepare to talk about what's on your resume. I put relevant school projects on mine when I was a new grad. It helps getting past resume filters and serve as talking points if the interviewer wants to ask about relevant experience.
That's nice. But I do have 2 yoe before starting my degree. I still have a my projects in resume. do you still think I should stress more on projects ?
Always put any relevant work experience; companies value actual working experience way more than school or personal projects. Put whatever projects fit the role and keep each to a one sentence summary packed with relevant skills. You could always provide a link to your github on your resume.
was last impressed by it when some1 had a Geocities site
OG right there. Wish I still had mine
Nope
Recruiters look at your application for 20 seconds or less before moving on, they sure as hell aren’t going to your personal website
I will go against the grain and say I think it could help with internships. Right now I'm guessing you have no experience to show on the resume so projects and grades are the only thing you can show off. A good website with some good projects can't hurt when you have nothing else to show. Once you're out of school it will mean nothing
I have 2yoe so I guess it's of no use for me now.
The exception is if you're going for web development roles and don't have web dev experience then having a nice looking website could still help. Otherwise just focus on LC
I am a new grad and I made a personal website. My reasoning, why it was a good idea, is because you can learn a new tech stack and deploy your website on cloud services to get some experience. Then You can write that on your resume as a project or can just link to it from your resume. It’s a great learning experience and could potentially help in the interviewing process.
Yaa I thought the same. I have nothing to show for in web stack though have 2 yoe
Did u find a job?
Consider contributing to Open Source projects on GitHub. Building your own site shows you can write code, but contributing shows you can work well on a team to build software.
