I am in conversation with an onsite team for a position in Dallas. Interview with hiring manager is done and he is willing to sponsor my visa and ready to schedule technical interviews. But the recruiter is saying that hiring an overseas candidate would be a long and tough job considering the current visa situation in India. And the current wait time for visa interview is too long (around 6mnths) Wanted to understand from the experienced folks if living in the USA is really worth the hype considering the money and lifestyle in comparison to India. Current TC 31 Lpa Yoe 3yrs Current location India #tech #workvisa #l1
Yes US is worth the hype. But with L1 you would have your hands tied if yoy want to switch jobs. For you H1 would be a gamble. So my recommendation purely based on immigration scenario in US and opportunities is to stay in India. Second part of the question lifestyle or quality of life. Don't want to sound rude but its better almost everywhere. The Indians who never went out of India before and go to Dubai are awestruck. While I interacted with many peoole who live in west and when they visit Dubai they say its mostly hype. So if lifestyle and quality of life is your most important concern, then leave for US. Or any country in west even if its relatively less salary. If you really want to leave for US, better idea is to move to Salesforce Canada. Get Canadian PR and when you get citizenship try to move to US on TN visa. While you work on TN visa, your company will keep trying for h1 lottery every year till they hit bulls eye. I say this as a person who have has experienced US and then India. Good luck
Thanks for sharing your point. How i see this is as a shot to explore US as well as other countries on $$. As u correctly mentioned H1b would be a gamble and purely based on luck. And i see this as my only option RN. Also, with L1 I would have a chance to convert it into H1b. Even its not converted, Salesforce has pretty good WLB and i dont mind working here for the next 3 yrs. And also thinking to change teams in case i felt bore. So, as long the experience of working and living in US is worth it, I don’t think i would regret this decision. Let me know if I am missing any point here.
As someone in US and wanting to go back to India after some time, what are your thoughts on life after moving back? I think I don't care much about the quality of life and all. Being close to family would be great. But can't deny giving up other perks such as less population, clean environment etc etc. makes it somewhat tricky decision. Hence the question. YOE - 1Y. I am just starting my career but think of saving some money and going back in like 10Y whenever I think about it.
Been there. Done that. Modern slavery. Hated being tied to someone. Realized humans need freedom more than anything else.
So what do you do now? I mean are you still on a visa?
Life took a loooong path. Left job, went to grad school, came back to work again. Regret not doing it sooner.
Being on L1 visa is like wanting to eat delicious food around you with your mouth and hand tied and being told u will get to eat same food everyday
Myself couldn't have said better
But do we (foreigners) have any other option(considering H1b is luck, not in our control) to even get to eat the same american food? Here my question was focussed on if working and living in USA is worth the hype even with the same organisation for entire 3 yrs
I have a similar option of relocating to the US and it’s really very difficult to choose lol.
To which city? And yoe plz
DM me.
Just FYI, L1 to green card is easier than H1 to green card
That's for manager L1 not for engineers. There are 2 types: A and B.
There’s a difference between L1-A and L1-B. Please don’t give half baked information
The wait time for Visa is not 6 months.
L1A yessssssssssssssssssss L1B noooooooooooooooooooo
It's not that bad if your plan is to stay for certain time only.
Why so? L1A is for 5 years and L1B is for 7 years. Is there any other difference?
Worth interviewing for, just know that visa processing at consulate is suspended and people with work visa aren’t allowed to travel to US from India. You may have to find an alternative to get to USA (quarantine in a 3rd country for 14 days?)
Man I'm in the exact same boat as yours but atleast Ive an other option https://www.teamblind.com/post/Y8ZcxHbi?cid=13897103 Read this, I posted 2 days back😬😬
Keep in mind you cannot transfer to other company on L1 and you have to wait decades for PR. If you are really inclined to go to US, do what Apple in previous comment mentioned. Go there, work for 2 to 3 years. Save a bit and then go for masters
I can't compare to India but I wouldn't pass on the experience
Thats what i was thinking. I shouldn’t give myself a chance to regret on this later in my life.
