Tech companies to avoid as a white guy?
For those who said worth it, what's the ROI and where did you invest?
ROI- Peace of mind
What peace of mind after investing in a space you don’t understand/want and struggling to manage it for next many years
Getting a GC is not everything in life. With that kind of money you can live a comfortable life back home close to friends and family. Not worth it
For real the only reason to stay in the US for us immigrants is the money unless you already have families and established some roots here. Or you are a war refugee or similar which I don’t believe most people on Blinds are. Most of us are economic immigrants. If you have that much spare cash to spend on a visa what’s the point anymore?
Some of us have built lives here
You'll get that money back in 4 years or so and you'll get 4% ROI which ain't much but better than nothing. Then you'll enjoy all the perks of a GC holder, you can start your own business, travel 56 counties visa free etc. I'd do it if I can spare the money
Till last 3 months Some RC also giving 10% ROI (not anymore). Your money will be lost only when RC is fraud and decided to runaway from USA, legally they can’t.
Where do you see the 10% roi?
Can you invest the 800k by putting 20% down and taking a loan against the rest of it? You'd lower your risk significantly
100% worth it if you like the US (and are honest with yourself about it). Half the people on Blind really want to live in the US but just keep repeating “I’ll go back and live like a king” and then get upset when they actually get laid off and have to go back.
This is the truest statement ever spoken on blind. The live like a king folks almost never go back, but are always the first ones to advocate others to go back. Lead by example pls. Don't say soon, or almost about to leave. Talk from India pls to back your opinion.
So true. Yesterday a single guy was venting why he’s struggling here and would’ve better in India. But the truth is most people can go to India or any other country if they really wanted.
Totally worth it and it bought peace of mind that doesn't carry a price tag. Will do it all over again now that I've been through it once. The investment needs to be "at risk" else it won't qualify for the EB5 investment.
Do you have any resources you used to learn about the process or find the project to invest in? or did you outsource everything to someone else?
@Salesforce The EB5 visa stipulates that only investments that are deemed “at risk” - essentially where there’s no guarantee of return of capital - qualify as “investments” for the purpose of eligibility. All EB5 projects therefore mention a likelihood of a loss of capital for the duration of investment. That said, some EB5 sponsors are better than others in terms of their track record and you will have to make the educated guess on what suits your appetite. I invested knowing the project will mostly be safe, but being comfortable if I did lose all the investment.
Yes. A GC is worth it.
Why?
Peace of mind ? Do you really wanna log into your laptop every morning at 9 ? Never wanna take a sabbatical, or you know, just take 6 months off to chill at home ? On an H1b, you need to always be employed and keep working your ass off so that you don't get fired and fall into the 60-day grace period.
If you have that kind of money to spend on a GC, just go back to India. I don’t understand this unhealthy obsession of a US GC. I can literally see common sense leave Ops’ bodies as they post EB5 questions.
I don’t get the obsession with going back. If it was so great why leave in first place.
It wasn’t, but it is now. Also, its not obsession of going back, it is a possibly better option than the ridiculousness of spending close to a $1Million for some asinine notion that US is the only place where one can live a better life. Most Indians are stuck with the idea that India is still the way they left it. The idea that it could be better is unfathomable. Anyway, no point arguing here, you do you. Good luck.
No. Go back to India with that money and live like king
This
800k won’t solve the mindset of people, poverty, air pollution, shitty infrastructure and hygiene issues in India so no. And neither will a billion.
