I'm curious what other hiring managers here think when they see someone applying from Cisco. I was part of a startup that was acquired by Cisco. But I don't have much experience beyond that. What would look better on my resume. Worked 8 years at startup X? Or worked 4 years at startup X and 4 years at Cisco? TC: $300k
Cisco brand hurts. Future hiring managers will low ball you like anything. Change as soon as possible.
Ex cisco employee. Depends on your work. I worked with Router OS which posed great scale and performance challenges. My interviewers were usually impressed by the work i did so it helped. A lot of opportunities cane my way from any of these big name companies to work on their networking stacks. There was one specific interviewer at google, in the behavioral round who asked โwhat was the most impactful work you have doneโ. After 15 minutes of explanation, he didnโt understand a word. Turns out he was a UI engineer , who was clueless about BGP, vnets, peering etc๐คฆโโ๏ธ
If you are working in networking space itโs good, all other areas itโs a bad rep. Itโs reputation in the industry is that itโs a company that gives anyone a job if your relative/friend works their. Most people I have seen have difficulty finding job after.
I disagree, I think security and their software group have really big scale and some cool tech. Even their routers are pretty amazing
They may have some cool tech but their rep in the industry is that most of their employees are empire builders and play politics.( especially management)
It's not the same pop as FANG, but G12+ Cisco folks are pretty strong. Most end up downleveled at Google, just FYI

Why is our country owned by Israel? I don't want my tax dollars fund genocide. How can we stop this nonsense?
Yeah, I think, "acquired by Cisco" makes it sound cooler as it looks like a startup worth acquiring and also puts Cisco further down.
