There's no firing, it's like a government job. But there's a bell curve, though the HR will deny it but it's enforced. Bottom 20% will usually get a " does not meet expectations ", so your variable pay(a big chunk of your total compensation) will be very less

Rating is from 1-5, higher the better. When I was there there was an enforced bell curve like this Rating of 1: 5% of the people must be given this. No increment, no bonus, no bonus stocks Rating of 2: 15% of the people must be given this. 5% increment, <50% bonus, stocks based on base pay increment (15% of new base pay vesting over 4 years) Rating of 3: 60% of the people must be given this. ~12% increment,90-110% bonus Rating of 4: 15% of people must be given this. 17% increment, 125-150% bonus Rating of 5: 5% of people must be given this. ~22% increment, 170-200% bonus Manager is given lot of flexibility and the forced bell curve may Introduce lot of politics, backstabbing, micromanagement and expectation from you to be a yes man to your manager
