Base salary is starting to look pretty similar across companies. Is there a tier list comparing company stock grant refreshers (or bonuses) for SWEs? Let’s maybe take the baseline as a senior level engineer. Bonus for E5 at Meta was ~200K (175K stock + 30K cash bonus) Tier 1: Meta, JSC, HRT, 2S Tier 2: Google, Uber, Apple Tier 3: Microsoft Tier 4: Everything else? Let’s crowdsource this list! #apple #microsoft #netflix #google #amazon #twosigma #hrt #janestreet #citadel
I’d consider Splunk for tier 2. I’d extrapolate equity from levels and 15% for senior level SWE.
My bonus as senior swe this year was 255k at 2S but I'm also a badass sooo 😎 TC this year was
Killem
You are a badass
Apple was only 140 (combined) at L5 equivalent. But I’ve seen 180
tier 99: netflix, no bonuses or refreshers
Guys what makes you think that Meta will continue giving such high refreshers? High refreshers were given earlier when the company was going good before. Now it even had massive layoffs and trying to save money. Still looking for getting rid of some people. Why would it give good refreshers? Plus the company multiplier will be much less than 1.0x. I think this year Meta refresher will be very very low, much inline with Google.
yeah, you are totally right.
Meta, and then the rest
Why tag Citadel but don’t list it? You know where they belong
To figure out the bonus of that company from actual employees working there, not second hand info
Err. JSC/HRT shall not in this list or should be tier 0. First, new hire’s guaranteed bonus is already 200k for the first year. Secondly, there’s no senior level internally. But as you stay longer, say 4-5 years in the firm, the pay can go up to very high (think about 1m bonus for dev, even more for quant)
I believe the OP was interested in the average bonuses. Those 1M bonuses are given during periods of high volatility when the firms make a lot of money. You can look back at years like 2017 when these firms like HRT had to give low bonuses and even cull a few folks from the company. Additionally, given that HRT has hired around 20% y/y for the past three year (stats from a headhunter, so please correct me if I am wrong), I am surprised if they will still be able to afford those bonuses as average post-recession. My gut feel is that those type of firms are hiring a lot and then employees would get a smaller cut. I am not sure on JSC, I feel it pays “more standard” bonuses. > Secondly, there’s no senior level internally. There are roles for “Senior Python Engineer” and “Experience low level engineer”. Clearly there’s some stratification.
Yes but 200k is definitely lower bound for entry level, which is already as good as fb senior
1. Meta Big Gap 2. Google 3. Uber (not guaranteed depends on target tc and stock performance) 4. Apple Huge Gap 5. Microsoft
Interesting, thanks. Any numbers for those companies, particularly Uber and Google?
You can search blind “google refresher” or “uber refresher”. Plenty of posts covering various levels
