Letting taxj drivers set their own prices would be a good thing. Uber and Lyft have been paying people poverty wages for far too long. And even though they do that they still can't turn a profit, they're raising prices without raising driver pay. And still not turning a profit. They deserve to fail because they have a bad business model

Amazon primetime Oct 11, 2022

Hard to disagree with this.

Apple NncyPelosi Oct 11, 2022

Hoping this pulls the gig companies into 21st century labor practices

this is generally good for the workers and the drivers... however uber and lyft are still not able to make a profit, but they’re public services essential for urban living they can’t fail 😭😭 they’re literally a modern day utility

Intel itpro12 Oct 11, 2022

Taxis still exist, they're not a public service at all

Samsara hrPA61 Oct 11, 2022

Yeah, I love calling for a taxi, having nobody show up for an hour, calling again, and being told ‘lol no taxis around, wait another hour.’ And then one finally shows up and the driver spends the next half hour complaining that you had the audacity to make them drive in traffic. You reach your destination and the driver lets you know that the credit card machine doesn’t work while firmly demanding a 30% tip. Taxis are great

Good. Gig economy was never sustainable. Drive your own car and pick up your own food like adults used to do. Stop being lazy.

Meta litoKun Oct 11, 2022

A lot of tech exists so that people can be lazy. You can take it one step further. Walk with your own legs, grow your own food. You could even say "find your own links"

Coinbase Je2ki31 Oct 11, 2022

@hte93 who hurts you? Why are you copy pasting the exact same comment in every single post related to this news?

I guess they’re wanting to follow the hellhole that is California. This isn’t good for gig workers. Generally, people that want flexibility and the ability to make additional money.

you know a lot of uber drivers aren’t “side hustling” a lot of drivers actually rely on that money full time

Coca-Cola TX2Ga Oct 11, 2022

Yes, and they prefer the flexibility. I remember seeing them protest against it in California. They don’t want to be employees. Government literally ruins everything.

Vanguard Charitable dayW63 Oct 11, 2022

This won't end well, the problem is with the economy that's rising prices. It's not the fault of business to do its affairs. Should business pay fair sure yes, but also the state should do more to fix the economy. High prices of anything is the govt problem and not business.

Apple NncyPelosi Oct 11, 2022

I don’t see gas prices coming down until the war ends. So that’s already putting pressure on the drivers

McKinsey J.Pow Oct 11, 2022

Efficient markets say if you let people set their own prices you get the fairest prices for the driver and the customer

Google hte93 Oct 11, 2022

That's right. And the correct price of an Uber ride is at least double what's currently being offered by being artificially subsidized by VC money

Meta xDmU52 Oct 11, 2022

Why should it end these companies. Prices will rise to cover insurance and some slacking drivers. Average people pay the cost and business will grow slower as a result. It will become yet another service that is more expensive for average people. Stupid rule, fit best for Californians now brought to you by Biden admin 😂

McKinsey J.Pow Oct 11, 2022

The “average” people don’t really Uber every where The policy benefits the drivers above all else. Which arguably are the ones that deserve the benefit

Meta xDmU52 Oct 11, 2022

Who said average people uber everywhere? They use it, now they have to use it less. Also drivers voted against this, so dont talk on behalf of them if you dont have the context. Most of these drivers use it as a side income.
