How the work culture and any more down fall expected in stocks? How’s the real compensation looks for IC3 and IC4 in Ireland ? Going to start interview for IC3 role but have experience of 8 years not sure if they can do IC4 after interview recruiter assured they can do if i do good in interviews Currently Sr. SWE at VMware #engineering #software #swe
Good company to join. Which org are you going to interview with? What role? SRE or Dev?
Not sure on the org. Its SRE focused on dev work i guess In start of process so do not know much details
Good, you ll be fine
There are a few dev teams that have SRE focused work and all of it is pretty solid in my experience. All of it is pretty important to get done. But keep in mind that the bar for this is high as well. The number of people doing that kind of work is small. That may be where the IC3/IC4 difference is coming from. If you're a strong candidate and you're capable of leading teams, you may well find yourself getting promoted to IC4. I don't know about compensation but the last time I checked it was fairly comparable to non-FAANG companies. If you're capable of putting your head down and cranking out good work, it's a high reward environment. If you're looking to rest and vest, this is not the place.
I don’t agree that it is high reward environment: no bonuses, rcu worth went down dramatically, annual salary increase doesn’t cover the inflation. If you’re not very experienced - there are some great things to learn, bit also not too much independence in your work
We likely work in very different areas. I get significant recognition for my work, I've seen people get multiple promotions for getting shit done despite everything going on. The people around me who don't have freedom in their work are generally the ones who need constant monitoring. If it were up to me I would manage the out and backfill with stronger people. The ones who can organize themselves and their teams and deliver are left alone to do exactly that.
comms or data? internally people seem to think working in data is better, and that seems to be where most of the time + energy investment is. personally, I don’t have an opinion on that really. I think it’s team-to-team, I have not many complaints on the day to day work.
Good place for rest and vest, nothing to actually be excited about
Thinking about this some more.. if you're facing a situation where you might be levelled lower than you expect, it's usually because you didn't meet all of the expectations of the role. For example, if you're going for a SWE role (or SWE in an SRE space), your coding should be solid. It's ok to miss on something, if you're humble and accept that and the company is willing to invest in you and help you level up. When you and the company together can do that, it can be a big win. But it's up to both of you to put that effort in. One of the things I like about Twilio is the huge opportunity for growth. And the work you're talking about is likely to be quite stable. These are good things in today's market.
I’m probably okay with the level if this gives me good growth opportunity but the compensation recruiter told me for IC3 doesn’t make sense
Huge opportunity for growth? You just be smoking something..
Don’t do IC3, you can easily get IC4!
My org is a shithole with a useless vp and everyone is interviewing trying to get the he’ll out of here.
They won’t switch you to IC4 during interview process unless another team is looking for an IC4 and you want to interview for that role instead. Leveling is typically set by the budget they have to hire someone to that team and less their actual skillset.
Twilios stock has been actually on the rise, one of the only cpaas players who had been in the gains as of recent. Culture is good. Data and Apps I think is the better side of the house, getting more investment and attention from leadership. Twilio will remain the leader in this space so it’s a good opportunity, great for the resume. I’m a fan of like 90% of the people I meet there. Not all but most are great and talented.
Yeah
