I need some advice on how to handle a conflict with my PM’s boss. They schedule meetings with me without inviting my PM and they frequently @ me to get questions answered on the fly in our teams slack channel with little background or clarifying information needed as an IC. They’ve also told my PM that they don’t think I comprehend some of the larger features I’m working on. My PM has my back and has explained to them that I definitely do. But when I have to speak to them 1:1 they talk down to me and treat me like I’m incompetent. I think I have 3 options: talk to my EM about it, reach out to them directly to try and solve the issue, or leave it and try to prove them wrong by contributing great work (leaning towards this option) I’m up for a promotion and part of that means being able to resolve conflict with peers on my own. But does that also include conflict with someone who’s higher up than me? Pls halp. YOE: 2 TC: 130k
Could it be that you’re just taking this a little too personally? The fact that he’s @ ing you means that he believes you’re a point of contact he can get info from (trust) and you’re also up for promotion. I’d be more concerned if he acted like you didn’t exist. In terms of the talking down part, perhaps he’s just rude. But reading between the lines it seems like you do have a level of trust/respect from them
Definitely possible. Thanks for that insight, kind of why I wanted to get other input before doing anything.
