Lately have been hearing a lot about NIO San Jose, seems to have created a buzz in the market. How is it like working at new. Is it a fun environment, any downsides, growth, bonuses etc. I am considering to interview for Sr. Full Stack engineering position.
I wouldn't go there. Just another self driving car company, reinventing what all the other self driving car companies are doing. Pay and culture questionable.
We got no self-driving dude.
Is it the next iteration of Mio?
Always was interested in NIO because I'm a car guy. Saw the np9 segment on The Grand Tour. Good stuff!
I have a friend there who loves it. Got promoted really fast too.
Bad
Would be great if you can elaborate bad.
Horrible leadership. Powerless middle management. Terrible workflows. Lots of dead wood. Worthless equity program. Lots of subpar hires that check certain boxes. Product is a giant shi(f)t sandwich of which every hapless employee is going to have to take a bite very soon. Join NIO if you're the kind of person that would go back in time and buy tickets for Titanic's maiden voyage. FyI, Imma bail as soon as I can.
Got verbal confirmation offer from recruiter last week, however he got back saying they are reevaluating headcount. Cannot make formal offer till reevaluation is complete.
What team and position?
Word of caution, almost nobody gets rejected in NIO interviews. You'll end up working with people who can't code their way out of a wet paper bag.
