What is your take on managers telling you “it’s a marathon, not a sprint” when talking about career progression, taking new roles, being choosy about your next step, etc.
“Great, can we do away with sprint planning then?”
We used to ship software on a 2 year cycle and slap the year on it as the version. 🤦♀️
You’re lucky. I was at a big Company where we used to slap the previous year to the project name because the project would get delayed by at least 4-6 months, which would delay subsequent projects.
Just do everything you can to be good at your job and get your recognition for it. Good things will come.
And if they don't then change your company, don't just sit on your ass and expect things to work out for you
Agreed. But I think if you’re really good then other companies will actually reach out to you. So just keep grinding.
Yes and no. Set goals, measure self progress, seek feedback to ensure there isn’t a huge divergence, if there are gaps - identify and ask for opportunities. Once you feel confident, make your case and ask what next
Two words: “manage up”
It’s a marathon, not a sprint when comes to our career progress. But it’s a sprint, not a marathon when it comes to project deadlines. F all managers 🤡
Everyone thinks the same because they are always right from their POV
