'Hindutva': The Radical Hindu Ideology That Seeks to 'Push Christianity Out of India’
7 years of military experience (Air Force)- graduating with Bachelors in software development in a month, completed internship with Blizzard- no return offer because I need a remote role or anywhere in Seattle area (taking care of sick family). Have submitted 100+ applications for junior developer roles AND paid internships at this point….. started with every game studio out there but applying to anything and everything at this point. Had my mentor at Blizzard look at resume- was told it looks “good”. Haven’t gotten an interview. Only rejection emails. So disheartening and I have pay from the Air Force for one more month and will be driving Uber to support my family until something comes up. *note- I don’t work at randstad- I use my wife’s account TC: 🥜 $70k/ yr (Active Duty NCO) Mostly venting but if you have any recommendations on somewhere I haven’t been rejected from yet let me know! I will do anything. #softwareadvice #jobs #software
Try government institutions like labs/federal agencies They are hiring with a decent pay nowadays
I have a few applications out for those- I get a leg up (supposedly) with the Veteran status so we will see
Yeah you should be eligible for clearance too so that helps
Applications don't get reviewed. Meet people or at minimum get referrals. Good luck.
That’s a good tip. I always wonder how effective the referrals are from folks on here but could not hurt.
Most applications fall into a void whereas a referral at most places means at minimum you talk to a person or have your resume reviewed. The reality is many companies get thousands of applicants for a role and simply cannot review them.
I would have taken the blizzard offer and supported my sick family with cash. But is what it is. Not much you can do but continue to interview. It’s hard out here for a lot of people not just new grads
I couldn’t leave my child and wife. My mom has breast cancer and does not speak English- only Serbian and I have to translate for the doctors at her appointments
I would be open to relocation and solve those issues with USD. Full remote opportunities are rare to begin with, and exceptionally rare for 0 YOE. I know that’s not what you wanted to hear but that’s my 2c
Did you try Axon. We’re remote and in Seattle. Not sure how many entry level positions open. But if you see any I can refer you.
Have not tried axon! Just took a look at the site and I see no entry but I so appreciate the offer
Keep an eye out. Just got out of a meeting where we need to hire a bunch more this year.
Try defense companys
There are so many more qualified Indian masters students. Think from employer perspective, why they should hire you.
Agreed. There’s going to be someone better than me. I’m 30 year old new grad with many years of avionics experience in the Air Force. It’s going to be a rough road separating myself from the pack but it will come down to someone taking a chance on me.
Yeah I’ve worked with plenty of “Indian masters students” and I’m sure you have too. They aren’t always geniuses haha. Masters doesn’t really separate you
Nov-Jan are slow recruitment wise in the best of times. Feb/Mar start picking up pace. Its tough when you have personal and financial pressures, but hang in there, I expect you’ll start getting calls in a few weeks.
I always thought being able to say your a veteran gives you a leg up. Is this the not the case? I know in some places, being able to check the veteran box means your name gets bump to the top of the pile.
What a shameful state of affairs we have here. A veteran who served their country for 7 years won't even be given a shot at an entry level position in the private sector.
100+ applications. That's your issue. Find top 3-5 places, call them, walk to their offices, talk with people, find a contact, get a personalized application. Good luck!
What utter bullshit
Walk to their office.................? TIL people really do go to Google hq and hold signs asking for a job...
