Hi all, Currently been exploring an opportunity at JPMorgan for a Software Engineering position. The recruiter asked my salary expectation and I told the recruiter 130-180k hoping to get 150k in TC. The recruiter responded that this was too high. He did not disclose the level at which I was interviewing but I fear this might be an Analyst position. 1) Any insights on JPMorgan comp and if I could ask to be up leveled if I was considered for an analyst instead of associate? 2) What is JP Green Card policy? Can it be negotiated? TC: 100k YOE: 3 (non software engineering but involves coding) #swe
i got an offer at JPM for senior associate level 602. comp breakdown was 140k base and 20k annual bonus. At the time I had 4 yoe with ~2 as a data analyst and ~2 as a SWE.
Which location? Was this NYC?
Jersey City
You’re probably slated for 601 (associate level) from recruiter reaction
So the comp really can’t go at 150k?
Thank you all for your input. I will talk with my recruiter and try to push for 150k!
Op - you do realise there will be good annual bonus as well like 30% plus?
I was counting that in the TC though?
30% as bonus?! Pretty sure thats really dreamy stuff unless you have an outstanding performance
JPMorgan does not give 30% bonus to software engineers. Fresh hires at SWE get 100k base 5k bonus, then I think year two they get $105k base and $10k bonus if I’m not mistaken. Then it’s 2% raise and $10k every year after more or less. You have to boomerang for a bump. If they’re telling you no for $130k that’s not even 601, they’re likely viewing you as an Analyst level.
Thank you for your input! That’s what I feared about. I will try to at least be considered for an associate level since I have a few years of experience. Don’t want it to go to waste
Proposed offer for 601 is: 120k base + 5k bonus for the Jersey City office. Seems to be aligned with levels.fyi I am thinking of declining
Yep that sounds about right. Also JPM doesn’t offer RSU to their engineers. If you need a job, take it, then keep applying elsewhere.
Agreed. If you don't have any offers accept it but keep looking. You are definitely worth more than 120K mate.
IMO not worth it. If you are going to slave away for a huge bureaucracy as a producer of code, you may as well be paid better for it
Sure no problem, what do you want to know?
Yes it consisted of 2 1 hour interviews 1 behavioral and 1 technical. Technical portion varies from team to team but I had a classic Leetcode style interview with some questions about Java. Behavioral was what you would expect from any behavioral interviews. Finally, one thing that I should mention is that for some location it seems that they focus more on past project experience in the technical part rather than classic leetcode
Just got the offer from JP but I the bonus is not on the offer letter. Is that normal? Most of my conversations were by phone so I have no proof that the negotiated bonus is what should I do?

How hard is it to get your first job at Google/Facebook?
Last I know tech associates should make 140k in JPM , this was a few years ago. Possibly more now. I don’t think what you are asking is out of line. Don’t undersell yourself
