How widely NodeJS used at Faang. Have any of you guys interview successfully in Javascript? TC: 160 7.5 yrs atlanta
Because it's garbage, you can't show off any advanced programming skills with it. It's not fully object oriented, nor so low level that you can demonstrate your knowledge of performance optimization.
When was the last time you wrote JavaScript ?
Java Script objects allow pretty much anything else to modify any member, there's little access control
node/js is mostly used by startups, where they need to rapidly prototype and iterate and product gooes through dramatic changes in a short time span. for something more established - it will be java/c#
Half true. Teams at large companies are using it more frequently because they can rapidly prototype as well. Depending on scale, they may need to transition, but it doesn't make sense to spend so many resources on something more powerful when they haven't proven product market fit.
Y’all answering like you wrote JavaScript in 2005. Among all the FAANG companies Netflix is a big Node shop.
Don't pay the haters any mind. It's widely used and there are strategic avenues for nodejs to be used
Disclaimer: I have never sucessfully interviewed in JavaScript. I have never attempted to interview in JavaScript. I always interview in the language I feel most comfortable in and I personally think dynamically typed languages like JavaScript were a mistake. That said, I would never look down on someone for interviewing in JavaScript. I would prefer that the candidate researched the languages we use (at Pandora: Java, Python, Clojure) and use on of those, but I would never judge a candidate for using the tool they feel most comfortable with.
Not used at google
Not true, node is used a lot for tools all throughout the company. Think integrations, build tools, etc.
Yeah, some hacked up internal tools use it, but not any production service afaik
Rofl these replies. I interviewed in JS and got the job. Language choice was never an issue. And fucking leetcode questions aren't so complicated that Java vs Javascript would make any difference.
sde2
Yeah
Interviewed and offered after using only js during interview process. Got multiple fang offers and took Google. Ymmv, but language should not matter during interview unless it's not a generalist position.

No. Unless you’re interviewing specifically for a front end role, don’t interview in JavaScript. It’s a huge red flag.
Red flag ?? Why ?
It is a red flag if you’re a backend engineer and you don’t even know one of C/C++/Java/C#/Python/Ruby. Any half serious backend engineer would’ve either worked in one of these or would’ve put in the effort to learn one of these.
