Discovery Plus - Offer

I've been offered a role of SDE-III with in Discovery plus specifically with connected web apps vertical. Amazing offer - good base, sign on bonus, some RSUs and 20% bonus. I'm slightly concerned about glassdoor reviews about politics. Can someone tell me how is it working as a Tech lead or in general in Engineering space in Discovery plus? Am i wrong in thinking it's a legacy company so not cool tech stuff etc? TC: £120K base 20% bonus £30k RSUs £10k sign on

Congrats! I worked as a senior engineering contractor back in 2018/2019 and it was a lot of fun working on their live TV services. The coworkers were all really nice, and there was a decent amount of learning tools and resources for employees. Only bad thing was my manager was excessively toxic and reinforced a lot of my imposter syndrome/ptsd. But if you liked your manager during the hiring process you should have a good time!

Perfect

Hey that's a great offer! I interviewed with them and got a really good vibe except for a senior engineer that was toxic. As long as your manager seems cool, go for it! Also it's not only a legacy company. They're investing heavily in streaming technology (think netflix, disney+) and trying to compete in the online tv/film/documentary consumer technology. The team I interviewed use modern tech stack + state of the art ML/Data pipeline Is the RSU 30k over 4 years??

RSU - is it applicable for UK employees only? In US they have ESPP only if I am not wrong.

Yelp Eng - May 11, 2021

They are different and both are applicable in the UK. RSU is a grant (think salary payed in stocks that vests over time). ESPP is scheme that allows you to buy stocks at a discounted price (you sacrifice salary for a set amount of time and at the end you get it back in form of cheaper stocks. Essentially free money, 17% gain guaranteed if you sell on purchase date. Gain taxed as income)

Even in India, they are offering ESPP
