Mostly writing this as a rant post but also to shed some light on the market right now. I’m currently an SDE 2 at Amazon and have been here for about 15 months and am desperately looking to leave the company. My team is awful, my manager is constantly berating the team, I work ~60 hours a week. I’ve also worked at Meta before so my work experience should meet the bar for an interview at least. I’ve been applying for the last 3 months to start ups, big tech, any mid-sized companies that aren’t primarily focused on tech heavily.. anything to get out of my current situation. So far, I’ve applied to over 400 positions. I have had two interviews (TikTok and Meta) but unfortunately those did not pan out (had one bad interview in each of those onsites). Not sure what to do..hopefully the New Year helps revitalize things. I got lucky to have a high TC for my experience so I know I’m going to take a pay cut. I’m even open to taking nearly a 40% pay cut but have had no luck. TC: 365K YOE: 4
That TC is so inflated lmao
Lmao for sure. I know I’ll take a big TC hit but worth it for my sanity
Sincerely hope it works out and you feel better
Lower TC expectations to 200
Yep, done. Would gladly take a 9-5 making 200 at this point
Honestly, 90% of engineers with double your YOE would be happy to land 150k. Not trying to bring you down, just stating the truth.
you can easily get an interview at walmart having meta and amzn on your resume . you should try for senior swe there
Will try applying there! Thanks
What's the YoE required for SDE-III at Walmart?
also its a numbers game , 400 is low for the kind of market this is
My experience (no faang background) with 1 yoe was at least 5% hit rate for screening calls per 100 applications. This was in 2022. Just to add some data points.
How is job security at Booz?
Something is wrong with your resume. Upload your resume and let us review it.
I’ve never had issues in the past. I used to have interviews/jobs lined up basically at all times so I’m not sure if it’s that. I’ll DM resume though
DM and I’ll see if you’re a good fit for our quant teams
Can you move internally to a different team?
Internal transfers are very risky nowadays. Managers are internally hiring to meet ura with the new member.
What does ura means?
Sorry to hear your story. Best of luck. My takeaway is I should never trade my happiness for money
100% agree
How hard have u been studying?
Op isn't getting the interviews in the first place, so study is irrelevant
Sorry to hear that. Curious if you missed any indications of your managers behavior during the interviews.
I think it’s hard to gauge these things during a 30 minute call. She was nice and didn’t mention anything that would raise a red flag.
+1 happened with me too. Manager seemed nice but got to see real face after a couple of months into the job
It might just be the holiday season... Hopefully things get better next year... I'm on the same boat ⛵
Yep, hopefully! Any luck with interviews yet?
Nope! I've been applying everywhere. Barely getting calls...
