Now that Premium processing is not an option. How much time is H1B transfer taking? Do folks wait until the transfer is complete and then inform current company?
Cool, thanks for that data point. I expect the risks of transferring aren't any different from risks at the time of renewal. Am I missing anything? Is there anything special about transfer?
I am not an expert, but in my opinion risk is something like this H1 lottrey > H1 transfer > H1 renewal in the same company.
Makes sense.
Also, if it helps... my friends trasfer was for a Different Industry (from his degree) New state and totally different Job title than his current one. He should be shitting bricks, but he is a cool fella and it all went smooth.

One of my friends had his h1 transfered in mid April after the premium processing you put on hold. He bagan working after he received the official request acknowledgement receipt from USCIS. He has been working with the new company for about 1 month. His H1B was officially transfered in about 2 months from the time he received the acknowledgement.
