Just found out I'm pregnant and my current employer doesn't have great maternity benefits( no longer with oracle). I plan to move to a company with good benefits, like salesforce, Microsoft, workday etc. Is it safe to move to these companies during recession? I plan to start interviewing from Jan based on hiring freeze ..
Switching jobs just to take instant maternity leave lol. Lmao even
Do you happen to have kids
Planning on it, but I wouldn't feel good about starting off by taking a 6 month leave 3 months into my role. That's almost an entire lost year While retaliation on this is legally disallowed, team chemistry is a thing. If everyone is supportive of it, cool, but if anyone was expecting legitimate assistance on an initiative, from a teammate in the next year...just lol. I don't see how the relationship could be recovered.
TLDR; just You get hired You are on your 4th Month of pregnancy (maybe 5th) You work for 3 or 4 more months and then you go on a leave (only to worry about your job?) Man, life as a woman is soo hard! You gotta deliver the baby, take the pain, Idk if companies consider this?
I know right !!!!
Just be cautious about maternity leave policies. Many companies require a minimum period of employment (like 1 year) before your maternity benefits kick in. Since you are already pregnant, you should only switch to companies which offer day 1 maternity leave and benefits
Atleast with salesforce and Microsoft, I know maternity benefits start Day 1 and not after a year
That’s great
Please check leave policies carefully. Many maternity benefits need you to work at a company for certain time period. And congratulations
I'd try and interview now for backfill roles. Hiring freezes usually apply to new roles not backfill. If you're pregnant now, it's ideal you start asap. This workplace / pregnacy thing is shockingly still so backwards in 2022 and even with all the anti-discrimination laws in place to protect women, they still do it constantly. Better to have a solid 6months if possible before you take off on mat leave. It's total bullshit but it's what I've experienced. -From one mama to another!
Appreciate your response. It makes sense to have some time before leaves in this current situation. May I DM for any questions?
If their maternity policy is at least decent and has good job security I would stay put

Do you really feel special in your Tesla?
Congratulations! Also for the job change - it’s always a good idea to stick where you are since you are much more valued there than your new place. But if you’ve decided to leave anyway what’s the point waiting until Jan/Feb to interview? You’d rather move and ramp up and create your dependency. Hiring is still going on in a lot of places. Not as crazy as last year but still doable
Thanks for the reply. I will lose a chunk of money on stocks and bonus if I interview and leave immediately. Tough decision
