6 months at first job ($170K). Currently 2 years 2 month at current job at Google ($285K). Have offer for $500K ($250K base) for senior SWE at mid sized public company. Also have offer at prop trading firm in the same range. I asked to push out start date but neither will budge . Should I take one of these offers? Or stay put so I'm not labeled as a job hopper ? Maybe I am overthinking it. Just don't want to ruin my career long term. Scared of Google round two so idk if anything is guaranteed nowadays, but Google is likely stable. Although double my current pay is a LOT! 2.75YOE + MS, no visa
Take it. 2+ years for current role is fine
Thanks !
Which public mid sized company is offering 500k for senior? Congrats bud
Why even post this. Sounds more like a brag. Even my cat that has a peanut 🥜 for a brain will tell you to take it. Unless you don't like money
I have seen some posts that some HMs won't hire people with 1-2 year stints : In it for the long run, so I can always wait another year at Google and job search again. But of course I want to accept ! Just don't want to screw myself over
I don’t have a job longer than 2 years. Never even brought up.
Why did you jump job? - oh they offered me twice the money.
How can mid size company offer such a high salary for senior swe?
Nobody cares ANYMORE about that label. Latest layoffs proved that loyalty and tenure do not matter. Everyone has reset their expectations including hiring managers.
If you don’t take this I’ll find you and slap you across your head.
🤣
🤕
Are you a job hopper? Yes. Should you take this offer? Yes. I don’t know why any company will be willing to pay you 500k for 2.75 YOE. Do you have some specialized skills?
Thanks so much for the thoughts No, no crazy specialization, I just low level C++ for trading firms and backend for tech, but am really good at them. I am decent at interviewing so was able to get a few offers in the $350K-500K range even in this market. Most were on the lower end of that range which is very different from 2021 from what I've heard
Is this bay area or remote? If so please DM the names if you feel comfortable. I can't find any prop shops that pay well outside of Chicago/NYC
Really depends on how much you want to risk it. IF for any reason you’re laid off at the new place, you’ll have a tough time convincing the next HM about your short stints. So I’d say it really depends on your risk appetite. If you’re not on a work visa, go know yourself out!
If new place lays me off can't I just put laid off on my resume ? No guarantee at Google too I suppose . Nope not on visa !
Yeah but at least you’ll have plenty of severance since you worked longer. At the new place, you wouldn’t even see the full 500k until the RSU vest cycle, which is at least 1year. I think you can put laid off on resume. I’ve seen people do that. Laid off isn’t looked down upon.
Good you had idiot written in the options. You have good self awareness 🙂 job hopper stability it seems - idiot.
Nobody cares about that label. Take the job. If not, please let me know which midsize public is offering 500k for senior. Airbnb?
Yeah pls share
OP doesn't believe in paying back...why to ask
