How’s the job market right now for data science or analytics roles compared to March-April 2023? #data #dataanalytics #datascience
I would say it has improved a bit, there is at least FAANGMULA hiring compared to start of the year when I was applying.

I am not looking but based on inmails received…. Got maybe 1 per month 6 months ago Get 1 per week now
I get one per day. But low quality conditions. All 3rd party.
I received offer call from hm in the morning, but got rejected for having less than 2yrs of OPT left from HR in the afternoon :) they were not this picky back then.
We still don't have a clear definition for what data science is anyways! So who knows!
This is the answer 😂
From sql monkeys to excel junkies to ml enthusiasts to stats gurus to deep learners - we are all data science 🧬 🧫 🧪
Got laid off in Feb this year as Sr. DS. Took 6 months to land Analytics role (with a promotion) in a public company with a little bit pay jump. I had onsite at 3 companies got one offer (other two were startups - one wanted more technical profile for Analytics Engineer and the other wanted less technical profile for Analytics role).
Teach me your ways
1. Know your worth and believe in yourself (helps with confidence and performance anxiety) 2. Decide your goal (lateral move, promotion, money, profile etc.) 3. Give yourself a timeframe and don't settle during that timeframe. 4. Apply and practice as much as you can. Preparation gives confidence. - - Read about company, product, job description, anticipate questions and map relevant examples for behavioral rounds 5. Assess your performance honestly and improve your approach for next interview (what could have I done better) - - Hold yourself accountable if you perform poorly, say, on SQL round which you can easily beat with practice. 6. If you don't succeed --> re-evaluate 2 and repeat - - sometimes you might be aiming too high - - sometimes market is not receptive of your experience for that level/profile
In general, most companies that I’m seeing hiring are just trying to take advantage of desperate people in a bad job market. Many are offering lower salaries, worse benefits and less remote flexibility than a year ago. When I hear from these types of recruiters, I tell them the same thing.
For data engineers, some companies want a backend SWE and some want a PM ( look at you Doordash ). Also the reach outs nowadays are mostly contract roles.
Slightly better but still not good. Way more open positions than earlier in the year, but still not many bites for me. Supply is significantly outpacing demand

BREAKING: Internal sources confirm another round of layoffs just hit emails at Tesla. For real.
Still pretty garbage tbh, took me ~4 months to land a new job, laid off in Jan (not @ Tesla)
Where are you now?
At a smaller startup, I took a paycut. Will probably start looking again soon.
