Hi, I'm currently a E3 engineer at FB, approaching 1 year mark. Facebook is my first job out of undergrad. I work on ranking problems for user value (product side of things rather than ads). A recruiter recently reached out regarding an Ads Ranking role at Snap. I like my work & team, so the only reason for me to switch is for potential compensation improvement. Would this be considered an opportunity I should seriously consider, or would I be wasting my time? Thank you. TC: 180k #snap #snapchat #snapchatcompany #facebook
No harm in talking
You could definitely get over 200 TC. Plus you can own a way bigger project on snap ad ranking given the size of team/growth. Given revenue and user growth I don’t think it’s accurate to say snap is dying!
What questions were you asked? Interview coming up
Did OP join eventually? I wonder if I can have a question about the recommender system field? I am an upcoming PHD student that wants to do data mining/recommender system or computer vision . I wonder is there a lot of job opening in the recsys area? How does it compare to computer vision and which field have more jobs? Becuase I am quite confused about the industry and really don’t know what to choose, recsys or computer vision. If you can happen to know the job distribution in google and can shed some light on it, it will help a ton in my 5-year PhD journey. Thanks a lot.
Both have plentiful of jobs, but generally more companies need more people working on recommender systems than vision. It is the bread and butter for all the tech companies that rely on advertiser revenue of any sort.
Thanks a lot. Yes, this is what I think. But I was looking at Facebook’s career page and if I search for key words “computer vision”, it seems that there are 1700+ jobs https://www.facebook.com/careers/jobs/?q=computer%20vision . If I search for keywords “ads ranking”, there are about 190+ jobs https://www.facebook.com/careers/jobs/?q=ads%20ranking I wonder maybe I have used the wrong keyword to search or does Facebook really have more jobs in CV than ads ranking/recommender system? Thanks a lot for your help.
I would say no Snap is dying but you're young. I would consider it for sure if you can get one of the 300+ tc offers.
Unlikely with 1 year exp
