Just got promo to L5 recently, and got offer at Meta last year. The money is way too good to ignore. What are some differences between the two places and tips to succeed in the first 6 months. Joining MRS org in a few months. Not MLE. Gonna use python and C++ heavily New TC 227/650/100 Old TC 450k but cliff coming. YOE: 10
Be prepared to work much harder. Ramping up in new work is not fun. Expectations are high when you come in as external senior eng.
Were you at Meta? Can you elaborate more? Higher how? Any metrics to aim for? Do I have to be an expert in something?
Not at meta, just my experience joining a new company as L5. They expect shorter rampup time, faster execution, and all that senior level work, but it's just harder to-do when you are new, which they don't care. You're paid top dollars, just gotta deliver the value you're paid for.
Are you a Rajesh?
Are you an involuntary celibate?
Rajesh and I are friends and we both like money
What will be your new tc after cliff. Also, new tc is 427+%bonus exc sign on. How much is % ? Is it guaranteed?
Worked at both Google and Meta. Meta way more political. You have to brag on workplace a lot! Also google is very slow compared to meta
lol at other commenter. They don’t know what political mean 😂 you need a lot of self promotion. Bottom up is engrained in the culture including selling your work and promoting your impact. Introverts hate it and think it’s “political”. Experience engineers just know it’s part of managing up. Anyways Be prepared to work hard. Ramp up help is limited because others are busy & not rewarded for spending too much time on you. About 50 hours per week during for first 6 months. Then you can ramp it down to 45/week. Don’t believe any idiot on blind who tells you they get by doing 35 hr/only lmao that’s outlier or fairly tenured in their team. I’ve been here almost 6 yrs
50 hours a week for learning? I dig around and most say they have a handful of diffs in the first 2 months only. Why 50 hours if there are only so few output?
lots of propriety tools and frameworks, bad docs or no docs, read the code but don’t understand it, you are supposed to figure it out on your own. Good chance your starter projects given to you by your onboarding mentor, will turn to be non impactful. Lots of distraction and bad advice on direction too. It’s your job to dig into RCA and propose new direction. It’s hard work. If you think the e5 job is about number of diffs then you need a different mindset my dude
Op, congrats on the offer. did you have any competing offers? How was the negotiation process? I have a verbal offer and I am in the process of team match
Congratulations! Is that 800K over 4 years ( from your previous comment ) or 650K over 4 years? That’s a fantastic offer! Did you have competing offers?
227/650/100 split over 4 years is 414k. Obviously the 100k is upfront and you could make E6 much faster at Meta than L6 at Google. But IMO I don't see how this move is worth it given the much higher stress and hours at Meta.
Is that 227 base, 800 stock and 100 signing?
Yes
800k stock over 4 years or each year?
