Joining VMware. Any tips?

I suck at office politics. Leaving PayPal for same reason. Any tips to handle office politics better? I dont care too much about promotions or getting credit and just want to not get burned with office politics again. Its fresh start for me so preparing to start on right foot.

I suck at office politics too. That's why I find Roku the best place for me. ☺️

How’s WLB there though? I have been interviewing with companies that have WLB (per friends) due to family circumstances. PayPal was good in that respect just that I couldn’t handle (or dodge) office politics well I guess.

Talk less, talk positive, and don't try to take sides

Makes sense. Thanks!

This is FANTASTIC advice IMHO. Also: be careful making friends at work. Some folks have less-than-noble intentions, sadly.

Don’t have any tips. Welcome to VMware. Hope this place works out well for you.

Keep your heart at home and your mind at work.

But wife needs my mind at home. And I need heart to pump blood at all times.

Honestly, it will depend on bu, manager and pay. If you are at top end for title, you will need to perform. If your manager does not know how to use you, oh well. January gift is your future. VMware makes cuts every year no matter what, your talent won't necessarily save you if you don't fit in.

There's plenty of office politics at VMware, but Stay in your manager and director's good books and all will be well

VMware techpunter Oct 22, 2019

It depends on the BU. WLB is something not good everywhere.
