Juniper Networks Salary

Genuine question, but does anyone know how well the old networking companies pay. What’s the salary range + equity for a distinguished engineer at Juniper? My dad joined through an acquisition back in 2002 and quit his job there back in 2017 where he was a distinguished eng. Since then he’s been doing nothing all day. He’s only in 57, so I’m wondering if he’s struggling to get a job. My mom has never worked. I grew up an only child in a very modest household, and I always assumed my parents were poor. I’m getting more serious about financial planning, and I’m worried I have to factor in potentially supporting my parents in the future. Asking here because Finances are kind of a forbidden topic in Asian households, and I’m stressed about my parents situation. I can’t tell if my parents are just frugal and lying that they’re okay or not.

I better be retired if I’m 50. Life is too short.

He would have saved enough to not to depend on you. You worry about yourself.

2017 was quite a blood bath of layoffs. I’m surprised your dad quit in 2017. Would you happen to know if your parents bought and own their house and if the mortgage has been paid off? Hope they don’t have any debts or car loan to pay.

Ooh. Maybe he got laid off in 2017, not sure that’s spicy. I know for sure my parents don’t believe in car loans. I was there when they bought all of their vehicles. I think we got our house in 2009 during the housing crash so it probably wasn’t that expensive. I know they could’ve paid our house down in cash, but they kept refinancing it over the years with mostly interest only loans or something because the rates were so cheap and they’d rather invest their money. (That’s how they taught me to invest lol). No clue what the mortgage situation is now.

If your household was modest your dad should have saved enough to retire after working for there for 20+ years. At 57 he may have decided to retire than look for another job. Why don't you discuss the job market with him? You may get some hints.

I hate this topic because he continuously interrogates me about my job, asking me what technologies were working on, and asks me what I’m trying to do with my life. He’s also not happy I switched from SWE to PM. (I know most of blind hates PMs too).
