Google is making me an offer, but I want at least one competing offer. Amazon loop is going well, though I’m only looping there for a potential counter-offer to Google. FRL today started asking these weird “Execution” and “Product Sense” questions, so they call them, which would as far as I can tell have nothing to do with the actual role I’d be doing. Definitely nothing to do with an actual role I would want to do. I never study for interviews, but if I had I probably would have discovered this sooner and canceled the interviews before they started. I told the interviewer that I’m not a fit for their Product Manager roles and ended the call. For terminating the interviews, I’m hoping they don’t block me from ever interviewing at Facebook again. Who knows where I might want to go after Google?
Woah that’s either very dumb or very bold
weird that you dropped out already when you don't have a competing offer in hand yet
Oh, it was self preservation too. I had no idea how to answer the first couple questions. I am unqualified for the role, or at least unqualified for the interview for sure.
Tech world is a large world. But it's also a small world. Each interviewer takes time to prep and have a normalized framework through which they have to assess someone. It's like everyone gets tested on LC whether they are going to do the same thing or not in their jobs, but it's fundamental. I would've probably had the conversation and sent an email after saying that I'm not interested than doing something like this. I'm curious how you are saying product sense questions aren't what you'd expect to get asked in a Product manager interview.
Because I’ve been at Microsoft for 30 years and what I thought was a PM is definitely not what Facebook thinks a PM is. Like I said, I didn’t study or do any research.
Congratulations! What’s current TC and possible future TC?
Current is 230k, possible is either Google L5 engineer or Google L5 engineer with Amazon counter-offer. Hopefully north of 300k.
