Trying to choose health plan. Wife is pregnant. A comparison tool suggests Kaiser, but they only consider costs, and seem to ignore the more limited network Kaiser has. Is it a problem? I worry that, since Kaiser is both insurance and provider could have conflicts of interests (offer fewer tests, less appointments, be slower). Also, Kaiser requires seeing a primary before specialist. Does that mean my wife will need to visit a primary so they can refer her to an OB, even though we already know she needs one? That seems like an idiotic means to waste time and delay actual coverage. Have you had any negative experiences? We are in the South Bay.

OB/GYN is separate. Your wife can contact them without being referred. source: have Kaiser
Yes, there was a lawsuit recently related to Kaiser limiting care for financial gain.
I've never had any issues getting appointments but I don't see specialists generally. Super easy to make appointments with my ob and PCP. I had to see an ENT once and that was pretty easy to get
Women are usually allowed to declare their OB as their primary. An OB can do anything a 'normal' primary can.
Your wife can see an OB without referral because that can be considered her primary care. However all other specialists require referral. I grew up on Kaiser as a kid and I would not recommend
This at Cruise? UHC works well if you want freedom in choosing care providers
