Hey Blind Fam - I've probably created +500 pitch decks over the last 7 years for private clients and companies Uber, Twitch, Intuit, etc etc. I studied under one of the guys who co-designed IG, Apple logos etc and can confidently say I have mastered the craft. I'm continuously amazed at how many companies create terrible pitch decks or event decks etc. I'm now building my own company and making decks on the side for people I know to keep money coming in while I'm building my main thing. Charging roughly 1k/deck but varies per project. I am looking to expand this - any ideas on how I could find clients not in my immediate circle etc? Would love any input!! #sidejob #gig #startup
I think we are in times where people value the messaging or idea more than the beauty of the deck. So long as the deck conveys the idea clearly, not many care about how pretty it looks. I’ve seen fairly averagely designed decks even at the largest conferences. But those speakers and the ideas on their decks have been excellent and that’s all most people care about. Frankly, I don’t think there’s much of a market to grow this beyond a point.
Totally, thats a given :) The message + storytelling is the most important part. I can't tell you how many decks I've seen with too many words, and no point being made or disconnected flow etc.
Lots of people are really bad at communicating their own message or idea, or understanding how to speak to their audience. I think what op is offering is more communication services than design services.
Build a brand, create a website, then upload a portfolio. Doesn't have to be original decks but at least something to give a taste of what your style is like. Add some testimonials, do a few decks for cheap if you need to build a history of customers. Share it to LinkedIn and network like crazy on there. It's a gold mine for startups. Head to Twitter, do the same there. I think before you know it, you'll be making more decks than you can handle. I think your challenge though is specifically the time it takes to build a deck as there is only one of you. You either need to leverage higher deck pricing and find high end customers or find a way to train this skill to others and delegate.
Love the feedback - I can do that but I am building a company which is my main focus so going through all the set-up of building the deck making as a business wouldn't make sense as its a side hustle for me for now. Until my company is up and running :)
I love to hear it, best of luck in all your endeavors. I'd like to add you on LinkedIn and support! Maybe in the future also have a deck built with your help :)
haha I like the irony of this You can help everybody else with starting their business but not yourself You should create a pitch deck to pitch your pitch decks
so cruel honestly!!! God has a sense of humor. I have and can make pitch decks to pitch myself but just trying to come up with a better idea than picking out companies one by one.
Hi, I plan to pitch a startup idea and I am interested in the art of pitch decks. Could you also share privately?
Send me a dm of your work too
