L4 SDE salary in Madrid, Spain for internal transfer

I am in the process of switching to a team in Madrid as part of internal transfer. In addition to salary, how's living in Madrid? Quality of life? Benefits offered in such cases of internal transfers? Would appreciate any help. My background is that I have worked for Amazon for 1+ year in India.

I don't know about Amazon. But food and nightlife is wonderful. Late night tapa crawls, paseo, good ribero and jamon. I wanna move to Spain now đŸ˜«

How expensive is it compared to cities like Seattle or Austin or Boston? asking in general

I only visited Spain. But I think it's much cheaper and quality of life is much much better than US. Europeans do know how to live a good life.

Life quality is great for sure. Everything is a lot cheaper. L4 at Amazon corresponds to what level at Google? I'd say it's not necessarily more racist as a country as the US, but people are probably more upfront about their thoughts. Don't pretend that in the US, except for a few areas, more than a small percentage of the population would be open to interracial marriages. That being said, I think it would not be a good place if you were black. If you're brown, the only problem is that other men/women might not be interested in dating you. If you're married, I don't think it should be a big deal. Otherwise, it's probably not the most immigrant friendly place.

College graduates are hired at L4 in Amazon. Single brown guy here! Not looking for active dating opportunities as soon as I set foot in the country but definitely don't want active racism directed against me everyday everywhere.

There is a strange dumb naive type of racism that is quite common in Spain. Asians are called "chinos" (Chinese), when you ask why people will say something like "can't tell the difference". All corner stores are called "pakis" (because apparently "all the owners are from Pakistan"). This is obviously dumb, but nothing close to the nazi rallies that just occurred in the US. Honestly, if you have a "good job" (amazon qualifies for sure), you will be treated as an expat. People tend to look down on immigrants with low paying jobs, but if you have a high paying job everything changes. I have Indian and Iranian friends working in tech in Madrid that absolutely love it, but in the end it is what you make it. Also, note: there is no point moving to Spain unless you make an effort to learn Spanish.

spanish here. I am not racist at all and I don't feel most people around are either, at all. it's true that you need to talk spanish or you'll feel like you are in other planet once you walk out of the office.

I can not help you much in terms of the salary and compensation, but I was born in Madrid and I know quite a bit how is living there. The quality of life is definitely one of the selling points for any internal transfers from outside Spain to Madrid. You will find out that the city offers many aspects that are not common elsewhere. There is not just a great nightlife but also a lot of things to do during the day. The food is incredible and you can eat in restaurants from different parts of the world, not to mention the food is quite cheap there too. In terms of blending in, I do not think you would experience any episode of racism or discrimination. Spain had many years ago some cities that were know to be really closed and not “accepting” foreigners. However, Madrid is now one of the most inclusive cities in the world, we’ll know for its LGTB community and multicultural life. All in all, if the pay is good, I won’t doubt to go to Spain with a company like amazon.
