L5 and Tech lead responsibilities
Are L5 levels always offered with the responsibility of Tech lead role ? Or can an individual join at L5 without working as a Tech lead. Thinking of interviewing at Uber/Pinterest and other start ups. Wondering if I can get L5 role/compensation even where there are no Tech lead roles available in the team I am interested in?
ofc, an L5 or higher tech lead can lead a bunch of L5s working on a hard project
Depends on your interest and business need. L5 is expected to drive directions and projects independently, but not necessarily at "tech lead" position.
Tech Lead is not an official title but you can be a TLM or IC at l5+ levels.
At Pinterest the tech lead title is not related to level or comp at all, its just a title
