Background: Previous manager level non-FAANG tech experience (internal non-SWE/PM consulting) SF/LA YOE: 5 TC: ~$105-120k Consulting staff Basically what the title says. Is LEK worth the PE experience for exiting into PE, or is MBB overall better long term advancement and comp? Also open to discussion if only Mck/Bain or BCG/Bain etc. But really just trying to weigh my options as strong conversations with all. What should priorities be? TC/brand/location/group/etc.? Thanks in advance! #lekconsulting #mckinsey #bain #bcg
Are you looking to stay and focus on tech? Also, just to be clear, you don't have offers from any yet, correct? Laterals to MBB are rather uncommon, albeit not impossible, without MBA at the staff level.
LEK is a sweatshop and unless you are going to be based in Chicago/Boston/London is not a strong brand name. Unlike McKinsey, which support you to exit to one of their clients, LEK will provide no support and generally refuse to talk about exit opps beyond what is said during recruiting
Among my peer group, everyone who has exited to PE came from a consulting boutique (e.g., LEK, AlixPartners, industry aligned ones). Peers who started at MBB are either still there or exited for product strategy at tech companies. Just one sample set from a partner at a shit tier firm with a rather large network, fwiw.
If you are looking for PE exit, definitely go for MBB and focus on PE cases as much as you can. The hours are crazy long but should open up the door for the right opportunity later.
