Research lab got acquired by IBM. They're offering the same same base compensation, but worse vacation and it seems that IBM stock is worse long term. Along with bonuses conditional on working for 2 years, the TC is about the same. I've had Alexa AI recruiters reach out about career opportunities, but I'm really worried about WLB at Amazon. I've also heard bad things about working for IBM. Is WLB as bad as they say it is at Alexa - is it comparable to the rest of Amazon? Does anyone have insights regarding life at an IBM acquired company? What should I do? TC: 175k YOE: 3 #wlb #acquisition #amazon #ibm
Hello friend, welcome to IBM!
IBM is a boomer company on a slow death. Accept the offer and look for a new job.

Ibm will chew your lab/company and spit out the pieces (they have done this to almost all acquisitions except RH) in 2 yr timeline that you see, so don't count on it. Take their offer if you don't have anything else on table and then keep interviewing.

If you think you can coast in your current/acquired company while you interview prep just take it. I can’t comment on Amazon but I personally wouldn’t work there. Better yet, apply to Amazon and other places. Use the Amazon offer to negotiate other offers. Job market is hot right now. Nothing is stopping you from accepting IBM and then leaving right after.
