We were let go bcoz of product market/fit issues. I am a sr. engineer and I am in late stage interviews with few companies before the layoff happened. Should I update the recruiter about my current status? Or should I wait and get the offer and then mention it? It will be only few weeks of gap if I get the offer.
No need to say anything.
Thanks. I know Uber uses go. Are you guys looking for go or python sr devs.
Yeah no needed to tell them. Just take the best offer and join
Thx. I still need to put it in during background check I suppose
OP which company were you laid off from? hearsay systems?
Not Heasray. I left while ago but don’t know how to change Blind.
It’s okay to omit information. Especially for negotiations the key isn’t ask for as much as you can in an effort to combat being lowballed since you know they’ll come back with less. The key is leverage. The job which you have or don’t is the leverage. And you need to figure out or find out what else you can leverage. Are these opportunities you’re involved in replacing someone who was last in it? How long has these searches gone for for these employers? What problems will you be helping to solve for them? How critical are the projects which is lacking the resource? If you can find info on these things plus keep up the facade that you still have a job come negotiations you have leverage. Also, as unP.C. or Macklnavalian as this next thing I am going to say is, nevertheless it’s true, if you’re a female, AA or LA you can use that as leverage too. “Diversity” is being pushed tremendously so use it. Yes I know how uncouth what I have just said might sound but am just being honest.
Don’t volunteer it but don’t lie. Your interviewers may already know.

Accept an offer first. Then don’t tell them.
Thanks. I am assuming I will have to put in it background check application.
Don't tell unless asked explicitly. Background check is done after you accept the offer so you can handle that separately.
